On April 4, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr gave a sermon titled "Beyond Vietnam" at Riverside Baptist Church in New York City. In this sermon, he spoke of his concerns over Vietnam and that the time had come to retaliate against Vietnam. During this sermon, Dr. King spoke regarding his own heart and found himself in agreement with the opening lines of the executive committee of the church, "A time comes when silence is betrayal." One could argue, during this time of silence within "good" people regarding behaviors of "bad" people, that "good" people's silence also serves as betrayal to people of color who suffer injustice at the hands of "bad" people on a frequent basis.
